Sketchcrawl #33 - Musketeer Statues

The following sketches were done from photos's supplied by Christine (Tatie) Raban. They are sketches of the famous Four Musketeers Statues located in the city of Condom, France. Christine and others were sketching these "live" today in the city as part of the World Wide Sketchcrawl #33. Condom is the home of the Musketeers that were included in the various stories, and as I understand it there is still a Squadron of real Musketeers in the city. The first sketch was a quick one done using a sharpened chopstick and Mont Blanc fountain pen ink only. The second sketch is done in pencil with watercolour applied.

  1. So ,somewhere in my teen years I read the three Musketeers and remember being a little confused about the title as there seemed to be four characters. Could it be that they were small men Maybe they were small men, as in 3/4 size?

  2. John..

As I remember in the Alexandre Dumas story it started out as the Three Musketeers (Athos, Porthos, and Aramis) with D'Artagnan leaving home to join the Musketeers of the Guard. This was also turned into a movie.

Later there is a movie created called the Man in the Iron Mask.

There is also a movie that was created about 20 years after, This story line is about the re-union of the Three Musketeers and D'Artagnan. In this story line the result is that D'Artagnan becomes Captain of the Musketeers, making him the fourth Musketeer.

No there are no small 3/4 size people involved. :-)
